project description
Seismic upgrade, preservation and renovation of three historic 4-story buildings in a complex dating originally from 1882. The project included the design of a steel-framed mechanical well at the roof level of the Chocolate Building to support a cooling tower, heat exchanger, boilers, pumps, and piping to provide conditioned air throughout the three building complex. Work scope included the design of supports and anchorage for all equipment in accordance with California Building Code. RCG developed a horizontal bracing system to carry seismic loads to perimeter brick walls which were reinforced by a center coring technique.
