FBI Vehicle Maintenance Facility, San Francisco

Conversion of a 33,000 square foot warehouse to a vehicle maintenance facility for the FBI. The existing structure has perimeter tilt-up walls with cast-in-place pilasters and a barrel-shaped roof formed with long span wood trusses. The building was upgraded to comply with the seismic provisions of the San Francisco Building Code for Existing Buildings and seismic life-safety performance level defined by FEMA 310. The retrofit included roof diaphragm strengthening, out-of-plane anchorage of tilt-up walls, strengthening of wood truss connections, and various tenant improvements to provide a fully functional vehicle maintenance facility.
